Unit 1 (Color and Design) - Indigenous
Overview: Exploring native art to develop cultural awareness through studies in color and design.
Concept: Connections

Unit 2 (2-D Form) - Pieces of the Past
Overview: While examining a variety of images from the history of American quilt making, students will explore design in pattern using watercolor, fabric and collage to create compositions based on the distinctive works by the women of Gee's Bend Quilts.

Unit 3 (3-D Form) - I Want My Mummy
Overview: Exploring the history, people and art of Ancient Egypt as an inspiration asking students "What is important to you? What would you preserve for all times?"

Unit 4 (Innovation) - Welcome to Me- Town!
Overview: After discovering a new and distant land, your job is to help document your findings and help give identity to this new world.

Unit 1 (Color and Design) - Made in America
Overview: Making prints, painting, and sculptures as well as computer generated work based upon evolving pop culture. Students will be inspired by artists Andy Warhol and Burton Morris.

Unit 2 (2-D Form) - Next Stop, Animation Station!
Overview: Welcome Animators! Grab your thinking caps as we discover the world of animation! While exploring the many aspects of movement, gesture and action we will create our own animations that communicate the power of motion!

Unit 3 (3-D Form) - Far Out Dragons!
Overview: Relating 3-D form and symbolism by exploring the symbolic meaning of dragons from around the world.

Unit 4 (Innovation) - Illusionary Animals
Overview: Investigation visual perception through the use of OP Art while producing innovative animals.

Unit 1 (Color and Design) - Behind The Mask
Overview: Inspired by the exquisite mystifying Venetian Masks, students will explore masks from various cultures and create artworks that awaken their personal ideas of celebration.

Unit 2 (2-D Form) - By Land and By Sea
Overview: Looking at the relationship of man and nature, as well as other relationships, the students will create landscape artwork using a variety of media. A field trip to First Landing State Park will provide for inspiration in this unit.

Unit 3 (3-D Form) - Natural Wonders
Overview: Creating wondrous sculptures out of wire and clay while exploring the limitless possibilities of nature's design.

Overview: Expressing emotion through manipulation of facial expression, color symbolism and text in painting and collage.

Overview: Looking at artwork that communicates messages while investigating 2-D techniques including the Photogram.

Unit 3 (3-D Form) - Is More Really Better?
Overview: Using installation artist Sandy Skoglund as inspiration, students will explore the idea of societal consumption. How does our society's view of "more is better" affect our identity, community and environment?

Unit 4 (Innovation) - A Horse of A Different Color
Overview: Looking to artist Deborah Butterfield for an understanding of communication through subject, material, gesture and placement in creating a series of sculptural pieces.

Overview: Creating artwork based on the whimsical work of artist director and producer Tim Burton, creator of Edward Scissorhands, Corpse Bride, and the remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Unit 2 (2-D Form) - Multiple Impressions
Overview: Determining meaningful connections between people and places using expressive forms of printmaking and 2-D media.

Unit 3 (3-D Form) - Into Another Dimension
Overview: Exploring the infinite possibilities of non objective sculpture with mixed media while examining color, texture and design through the eyes of abstract artist Frank Stella.

Unit 4 (Innovation) - Clay Animators, Take 1
Overview: It's your turn to explore the world of clay animation and display all you have learned at ODC. Applying your years of artistic knowledge, your will design an innovative clay animation promotion highlighting the importance of the visual arts in our world!
