Program
Overview
Identified
students in grades three through eight may attend Old Donation
Center one day per week to receive instruction designed to challenge
the artistically gifted and meet their educational needs. The
curriculum integrates art history, criticism, aesthetic perception,
creativity, theory, and skill development, as well as components
from the core curriculum of knowledge. Since the art program at
the home school implements Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL)
for the Visual Arts, the Old Donation Center Program is designed
to extend SOL objectives through differentiated instruction necessary
to challenge artistically gifted students. Personal growth and
the enhancement of personal qualities which contribute to self-development,
self-image, and positive attitudes toward others are emphasized.
Student performance and the effectiveness of the visual arts curriculum
are evaluated regularly.
Identified
students in grades six through twelve are eligible to participate
in after-school, Saturday, and summer opportunities when available.
These classes, which are organized around a specific technique,
theme, topic, or meduim, are designed to promote creativity and
skill development. Student performance is evaluated at the conclusion
of the session in which the student participates.
