There
are many opportunities for students to become involved at ODC.
Art
Squad
-
meets twice a month. Students are selected based on interest,
ability, and achievement in art. They create artwork to promote
awareness and excellence in the visual arts.
Bookstore
-
ODC has a bookstore that is open each morning before the start of the
school day. Supplies including pencils, paper, notebooks, erasers and
school logo merchandise is available for purchase from the Bookstore.

Computer
Technicians - Selected students who show technology
ability and can learn to troubleshoot small problems within the school.
These students take their duty seriously, and demonstrate
responsibility.
Destination
Imagination -
is an international competition that emphasizes creativity, teamwork,
and problem solving skills. This years ODC has two multi-grade
level teams that meet weekly after school. One team, "Dynamic
Improv," will research famous cultural performers, landmarks and innovators,
and then work together to create a performance. The "Mystery Loves Company"
team will write a mystery story and design communication tools for sending
secret messages.
Future Problem
Solvers -
4th and 5th grade students use creative problem solving processes through
competitive and non-competitive instructional programs so that they
learn to work with others in designing positive futures. Four-member
teams research topics to tackle social, scientific, political, economic
or technical issues.
Great Computer
Challenge -
Each year WHRO and the Consortium for Interactive Instruction (C.I.I.)
hosts a fun filled day, where teams of students use their technology
skills in group competition.
Morning Announcement
Team -
Several students provide the morning announcements each day. They lead
the Pledge of Allegience and the moment of silence, give the
daily weather report, announce upcoming events and provide a quote-of-the-day
message.
Newspaper
- ODC have almost 70 students involved as editors and
reporters this year. We plan to publish 8 issues.

Enrichment -
Safety Patrols
- ODC has approximately 26 saftey patrols who
work hard every morning and afternoon to keep our school safe.
They lead by example, and are an asset to the school environment.
School Store

Silver Talon
Editors, Photographers, and Publicity Committee
- provide input and organizational ideas for the Silver
Talon, the yearbook for ODC. Each class has an assigned photographer
who is responsible for taking and submiting digital photographs for
inclusion in the annual yearbook.

Student Council
Association - (SCA)
- at ODC is designed to give our students an opportunity
to be involved in planning and implementing projects and activities.
These projects focus on supporting and helping our community and our
school. Our SCA theme at ODC is "Leadership is Action, Not Postion."
Ten, Twenty,
Thirty, Forty, Fifty Mile Clubs
- All students in the school participate. During
run club days they try to run as many laps as possible and we keep a
log of their totals. Three laps is a mile. When they reach
the 10, 20, 30 or 40 mile club they get a reward for all of their hardwork,
not to mention their name up in the gym.
The
Eagle's Quill -
a new literary magazine, consisting of an Editorial Board of seven students
and two teachers. The magazine is published in June.
ThinkQuest
-ThinkQuest
Junior is a competition that encourages girls and boys in grades 3-5
to take a meaningful interest in computers and technology. It promotes
the "Internet Style" of learning. ThinkQuest Junior teams create educational
Web sites on a variety of subjects. Entries are posted in the ThinkQuest
library.
